In order to facilitate a centralized and shared compute facility at SCI, the Directorship will provide a match of up to 50% toward the purchase of compute systems, with the following provisions:
-
This policy applies to compute resources (e.g., CPU/GPU) only and is not applicable to other facility resources (e.g., storage).
-
Systems purchased with an SCI Directorship match will be made available for all SCI users to access. However, the PI may specify a group of users who will have priority access to the systems, with all other users’ jobs limited to when the system would otherwise be idle.
-
Matching funds will be provided during the lifetime of the resource being matched but may or may not be made available immediately. For example, for a multi-year grant, the matching funds may be awarded during a later year of the grant to spread out the cost and/or to take advantage of advances in technology over time.
-
These systems must be rack-mountable, installed in a data center, and approved and administered by SCI IT.
-
Access to systems will be provided via accepted industry-standard methods for HPC and AI/ML research (e.g., jobs must be submitted via a scheduler/workload manager; interactive logins will not be allowed).
The matching grant will be based on available funds. Please email with the details of your proposal to start a discussion.
